For the last post in my series about my trip to Los Angeles in October last year, I thought it would be fitting to share a recap of the main reason I went – Showcasing my label P’JUNK on the runway! The catalyst for my trip was being invited to showcase my fashion design creations at LA Fashion Week. Thanks to the support of the Department of Local Government, Sports and Cultural Industries here in Western Australia I was able to accept this invitation and make my international runway debut!
The experience of showing my work to an international audience for the first time was a highlight moment of my young fashion career, and I’ve made some great connections and friendships with amazing people (as well as been able to meet some friends from Instagram in person!). I also had the chance to collaborate on the wonderful photo shoots that you’ve seen me posting over the past few weeks – This trip was such a fun, creative experience that I have such fond memories of.
I hope you enjoy taking a peek at the behind the scenes video I made below, vlogging the process of being a designer backstage at LAFW. Despite being sick at the time (I was very run down and jet lagged!) I really wanted to take you guys with me backstage to show a little look at what its like to be a designer behind the scenes of a show.
There was also a number of photographers snapping images of each outfit at the end of the runway, the best of which I thought were taken by Manny Llanura – Here is every look from the show in all their colourful glory!
Overall I really enjoyed my experience showcasing on the LA Fashion Week schedule – The fashion industry in LA is so bustling and vibrant, and I felt as though people there really connected with my fun fashion creations! And the shows were so well organised, as a designer I had all the support backstage and behind the scenes that I needed to pull together a great runway presentation. I’m forever thankful that I was able to have this awesome opportunity, and already can’t wait for the next time I’m able to visit LA – There is still so much I’d love to do there and people I’d love to work with! So stay tuned… LA, I will be back!
